Asaf Atasoy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Asfa Holding and a philanthropic businessman, issued a message on the occasion of the July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day.

Asaf Atasoy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Asfa Holding, included the following statements in his message;

“Two years have passed since the treacherous coup attempt by the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization, which aimed to undermine the unity and solidarity of our beloved nation and targeted the national will, the Republic of Turkey, and its government.”

On July 15th, our heroic people, fighting for their homeland, democracy, and independence, once again declared to the whole world, with the same determination as centuries ago, that protecting their land and glorious history is the sole element of their future.

That night, our heroic nation, united as one—men, women, young and old—filled the streets and squares at the call of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. They confronted tanks, cannons, planes, helicopters, and rifles with nothing but their faith and belief, risking their lives, and for days they remained in the squares, defending democracy.

As a manifestation of profound awareness, our noble nation, which without hesitation took to the streets to defend the indivisible unity and future of the country against the treacherous coup plotters and declared, “I have a heart bigger than tanks,” has set an unparalleled example for future generations.

From the very first moments of the July 15 coup attempt, our fellow citizens from Erzurum and Istanbul, who clearly and unequivocally took a stand in favor of national will and democracy, resolutely defended their homeland, nation, and flag with their vigil for democracy. Because we believe in the power of unity, and we know that our hearts have beaten with the same feelings for this homeland for centuries.

“With these feelings and thoughts, on the 10th anniversary of the July 15 Martyrs Commemoration, Democracy and National Unity Day, I pray to God for mercy for our July 15 martyrs who fought for our independence and democracy, and for all the martyrs throughout history who sacrificed their lives for our common sacred values. I remember our veterans with gratitude and appreciation, and I offer my deepest respects.”

The Turkish Nation is a noble nation that has changed the course of history with its honorable stance, heroism, and achievements. Our nation, having earned its right to live with dignity, demonstrated on the night of July 15, 2016, as it has throughout history, its determination to protect its indivisible unity and homeland and to overcome the obstacles placed before it. It did not hesitate to sacrifice hundreds of its own lives for this cause.

Still reeling from the devastating effects of past coups and aware of how far each coup attempt sets our country back, the Turkish nation, at the call of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, took to the streets to resist the treacherous FETO coup attempt of July 15th, a feat we will never forget and will never allow to be forgotten. They thwarted the traitors who attempted a coup and gave them the necessary response. Taking to the streets for the future of their homeland and nation, our people, despite the guns pointed at them and the tanks driven against them, set aside all political, ideological, ethnic, and religious differences, united under the Turkish flag and wrote a new epic of liberation.

On the second anniversary of the treacherous coup attempt of July 15th, it must be known that this cherished homeland of ours, every inch of which is watered with the blood of our martyrs, and the Republic of Turkey, the hope, voice, and breath of all Muslims worldwide, will not give in to attacks from within or without. Thankfully, our patriotic people, with their common sense, have always stood by God and the just, never succumbing to captivity in these lands where we live in the spiritual atmosphere of the sultans of the heart.

I believe that as long as this unity continues, the sacred homeland entrusted to us by watering it with the blood of hundreds of thousands of our martyrs will never be divided, and the Republic of Turkey, founded under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk through a great struggle by the nation despite all the impossibilities, will live forever.

With these feelings and thoughts, I remember with mercy all our Martyrs who fell martyrs fighting tirelessly for our Homeland, our Flag, and our values, and with gratitude and respect our Heroic Veterans, and I extend my warmest wishes to all my fellow citizens on the “July 15 Martyrs’ Memorial, Democracy, and National Unity Day.”
